Right In The Eye - Part 2

ONE KING LEADS TO ANOTHER

I want to do what I wanna do. I wanna do what I want when I want with whom I want.

So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. Joshua 24:14 NLT

The people replied, “We would never abandon the Lord and serve other gods."  Joshua 24:16 NLT

For the Lord our God is the one who rescued us and our ancestors from slavery in the land of Egypt. He performed mighty miracles before our very eyes. As we traveled through the wilderness among our enemies, he preserved us.  Joshua 24:17 NLT

"It was the Lord who drove out the Amorites and the other nations living here in the land. So we, too, will serve the Lord, for he alone is our God.”  Joshua 24:18 NLT

But the people answered Joshua, “No, we will serve the Lord!” Joshua 24:21 NLT

The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight and served the images of Baal. Judges 2:11 NLT

They abandoned the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They went after other gods, worshiping the gods of the people around them. And they angered the Lord. They abandoned the Lord to serve Baal and the images of Ashtoreth. Judges 2:12-13 NLT

This made the Lord burn with anger against Israel, so he handed them over to raiders who stole their possessions. He turned them over to their enemies all around, and they were no longer able to resist them. Judges 2:14 NLT

Every time Israel went out to battle, the Lord fought against them, causing them to be defeated, just as he had warned. And the people were in great distress.  Judges 2:15 NLT

They forsook God.

They followed the people around them.

They surrendered their freedom.

Israel simply traded one king for another. They were no longer able to resist.

It's always easier to say no to God than it is to say no to the things you substitute for God.

Then the Lord burned with anger against Israel, and he turned them over to King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram-naharaim. And the Israelites served Cushan-rishathaim for eight years.  Judges 3:8 NLT

In our attempt to do what we want, when we want, with whom we want, all we do is trade one king for another.
